Blast output 8

Blast tabular output (#8) is arguably the most useful (usable?) blastall output. However, I always forget what the column headers are (although–theoretically–I shouldn't). I never put enough reminders. I know that I have one or two files in my computer with the column headers, but, why not add one more (honestly, I may have already blogged about it Embarassed:

Here are blast output 8 column headers:

query subject %id

alignment
length

mismatches gap
openings

query

query
end

subject

subject
end

E
value

bit

If you use "-m 9" instead of "-m 8", you will get the description line printed (that contains the column definitions).

You might want to try the newer BLAST+ instead of the old BLAST. One of the new features allows the user to define the columns of the tabular output. This way you don't need to remember what they are. ;-)

    Take a look at:

Thanks. Yes I like output 9 but many ready-made files are in "8" format
