So You Want To Do A Thesis In The Edwards Lab
I get a lot of requests from students for thesis projects, and I am always looking for talented students. We have a vibrant lab that researches at the intersection of computer science and biology, an area called Bioinformatics.
A thesis project is not an 'easy' way to graduate, it is just as hard, or harder, than testing out.
Tips to help you get a research project in the lab:
- Look at the lab website
- Talk to the people in the lab and see what projects they are doing
- Think about an interesting question that you could answer
- Here is a list of interesting questions that we are putting together
- Have a realistic idea of what a thesis project entails:
- How long do you expect it to take
- How much time can you commit to the project per day or per week
- Do you expect to work only nights and weekends or do you expect to work during the day too
- Do you expect to work at home, in my lab, or in the library
- Make an apppointment to see Rob
- Come prepared
- Read this
- Have a transcript and/or CV
Tips to help you not get a research project in the lab:
- Everyone can code Java, C++, and databases.
- A thesis requires a significant time comittment.
